gift guide: kids books

Books make the best gifts! My mother in law is a teacher and she gives my kids a TON of books – so many of these are from her! She even puts together her own book of the month club for their first birthdays. It’s so fun! If you’re looking for some kids’ books to give this year, check out some of our favorites:

The Crayons’ Book of Colors / The Day the Crayons Quit / The Day the Crayons Came Home

These make me laugh out loud. They are so funny for kids and adults! The first is more for younger kids and the bottom two for bigger kids.

Things that Go / My Neighborhood / Baby, Let’s Eat

These are for really young kids and they are such a cool concept. They are literally indestructible. As in you can’t rip them or ruin them in pretty much any way. They are just a couple pages each but perfect for babies ages 6 months to maybe 18 months!

Sofia Valdez, Future Prez / Iggy Peck, Architect / Ada Twist, Scientist / Rosie Revere, Engineer

Best series ever! We love these books so much. They are quirky and have an awesome lesson – that kids can do/be anything! We also have the Ada Twist chapter book and it’s really cute.

Where Are You [name]? / The Little Girl who Lost Her Name / The Birthday Thief

These are always the BEST gifts and now there are so many options out there. These books are completely customizable with your child’s name, looks, and sometimes their interests. My kids get a kick out of them! This one is also somewhere in our house (I couldn’t find it but it’s here!) and is the perfect gift for siblings.

My Big Truck Book

This is one of Nixon’s favorites! He knows ALLLLL the trucks because of it.

5-Minute Stories for Fearless Girls / Stories for Boys who Dare to be Different

Both so cute and inspiring. Grey is really into this one right now.

Another of Nixon’s favorites. He has the whole thing memorized because he reads it so much. “A is for…apple! B is for…balloons!” Hearing him say octopus is one of my favorite things of all time.

Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site / Mighty, Mighty Construction Site

These are perfect for kids who love construction and trucks aka both of mine!

In My Heart

This is a great book that discusses feelings which was great for Grey when she was about 2.5-3 years old. She still loves this book!

She Persisted / If You’re Going to a March

These both have provided awesome teaching moments for Greylen, especially this year!

Basketball Legends Alphabet / Man Utd Legends Alphabet / Fashion Legends Alphabet

Love, love, love these books! They are so colorful and well designed, fun and interesting for adults to look at, too! We got Ben the Manchester United one for Father’s Day or a birthday to read with the kids!

Dragons Love Tacos

This is another quirky and fun book for basically any age kid. Who doesn’t love dragons and tacos?! There is a sequel, too!

Good Night Yoga

This book got Grey so into yoga. It’s really cute to watch her do the poses on each page and practice the breathing.

Dear Boy, / Dear Girl,

These books make me cry…they are so, so good! I love this gift idea for your own kids or a niece/nephew/special kid in your life!

Little People, Big Dreams Coco Channel

Little People, Big Dreams books tell the stories of inspiring people in history. From artists to scientists to human rights activists, I am always discovering new ones!

I also highly recommend signing your kids up for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. It’s completely free and kids get a book in the mail each month from birth to age 5. See some of ours above. They always seem to tie into what each kid is into at the time. It’s incredible!

It was so hard to narrow these down – there are so many more books we enjoy that I didn’t snap pics of. If you are looking for something specific, just let me know and I’ll try to help!
