my at-home work space
I am so excited about this new space in our house! We don’t have a true “office” but we recently created a playroom/work space in a room in our home that wasn’t really serving a true purpose (I think it was originally meant to be a dining room but we’ve never used it for one). I had a ton of fun picking everything out and was able to find everything under my budget!
My first order of business was the desk. I knew I wanted a mid-century modern style in white and that the desk couldn’t be too big if it was going to fit into the space. I was really excited to find this one at Target for under $200! I had some issues with the desk getting damaged during shipping (I would suggest upgrading to express shipping to help avoid issues) but once I got that sorted out, I knew it would work great. I also ordered this dining chair from Target which ended up fitting perfectly under the desk. It’s really comfortable and I love the gray color!
Next up was the rug. I knew I wanted a patterned rug but really didn’t want to spend a fortune on it (rugs are so expensive!). I looked for a long, long time and ended up finding this one at TJMaxx. It was $49(!) and it matches the paint color perfectly!
I accessorized with some plants. First, I found these terrariums at Hobby Lobby on sale and an awesome planter at Home Goods (I think it was $25!). Then I headed to the nursery to grab some succulents and a Fiddle Leaf Fig tree (I’ve been wanting one forever but I do not have a green thumb so if you have any tips for keeping it alive, send them my way). The finishing touches were a macrame wall hanging from Home Goods and a couple fun desk accessories from Target.
Though this spot is so simple, I spent a lot of time looking for pieces that I truly love and I think it really paid off in the end. It’s peaceful and refreshing and the perfect place for me to get things done! My favorite part is that I can watch Greylen play with her kitchen while I’m sitting at my desk. It’s definitely her favorite thing to play with right now so we spend a lot of time in this room!
