recapping our trip to singer island, florida
One of my goals is to include some more travel related content here on the blog. While I don’t travel too, too frequently, I want to get better about documenting it when I do. First up is the trip we recently took to Singer Island, Florida, near Palm Beach.
Flying with Greylen was actually relatively easy. I think it helped that she had a ton of familiar faces with her on the plane! I brought lots of snacks and a couple toys but for the most part, she slept.
Where we stayed
There was a big group of us (my whole family) so we had two condos at the Marriott Oceana Palms. We loved them! Each had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, kitchen and a fantastic view! The hotel was very family-friendly and not crowded at all (we went the week before Christmas). They had kid-friendly activities throughout the day, a great pool and beach access.
Where we ate
Because our room had a kitchen, we went to the grocery store and ate breakfast and lunch at the hotel. I loved that! It was cheaper and easier than going out. For dinner/treats, we tried the following:
The Woods – This restaurant is owned by Tiger Woods and we loved it so much that we ate here twice! The food is mostly American (I loved the turkey burger and the southwestern chicken rolls) and they have an amazing smores skillet for dessert that is a must-try!
Roccos Tacos – We were really excited to try this fun Mexican restaurant all week! Half of us liked it and half didn’t. I loved the decor (if you’re from Cleveland, it kind of reminds me of a bigger Barrio) and the guacamole (made table-side) was the best ever. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t love my entree but I’d definitely give it another try and order something different!
IL Bellagio – This was my favorite restaurant that we went to! Italian food is my favorite and this was so, so good. Make sure to get a seat outside (it’s located in an outdoor shopping center). I had the mozzarella fritta and champagne risotto. It was one of the best Italian meals I’ve ever had!
Saito’s Japanese Steak House – My family always likes to try a Japanese steak house when we go on vacation. This one is located in the same outdoor shopping center as IL Bellagio. It was okay but not my favorite. With all of the other great dining options in the area, I probably wouldn’t go back.
Sloan’s Ice Cream – This ice cream shop is the cutest! It’s so fun inside and they have a ton of unique flavors. I had the Cookie Monster flavor – oreos and homemade chocolate chip cookies. Delish!
Subculture Coffee – I absolutely LOVED this coffee shop. I did a little research before our trip and knew I wanted to stop by here because of how cool the little patio was. Gotta love a good mural…#bloggerproblems. I got my go-to (vanilla almond milk latte) and it was perfect. I know if I lived close I’d be spending manyyyy days at this place!
Where we went
The weather was beautiful so we explored a new area each day and never had to drive more than 20 minutes from our hotel. Because it was so close to Christmas, everything was so beautifully decorated! There was even a 35-foot Christmas tree made out of sand in downtown West Palm Beach. We checked out West Palm Beach, Jupiter and some of the outdoor shopping areas, like City Place and Worth Avenue (kind of like Rodeo Drive!).
What I wore
To be honest, I didn’t even need to pack. I mostly borrowed from my sister! It’s just always more fun to wear clothes that aren’t yours! Everywhere we went was pretty casual so we didn’t bring anything too fancy. My triangl bathing suit (in Poppy Pink Lemonade) was definitely a staple and I wore my DV by Dolce Vita sandals all week long.
What I bought
No vacation is complete without a little shopping, right?! Right. We hit up the Palm Beach Outlets (Florida has the best outlets!) and I bought these shoes that I’ve been wanting forever as well as a new pair of jeans with a raw hem.
What I read
My love for the library runs deep (it’s literally one of my favorite places) and I’m just starting to get back into reading. On vacation I read The Dinner by Herman Koch and Fool me Once by Harlan Coben. Neither one was my favorite but both were good enough for me to keep reading and finish! I’m planning to read more in 2017 so I’ll keep you updated on what books I really enjoy!
Overall, Greylen’s first vacation was a huge success! If you’re looking for a fun, family-friendly destination, check it out!
