taking advantage of family time
“It goes so fast.” That saying felt so dramatic when people said it to me while I was pregnant but as it turns out, they were right. I literally blinked and Greylen is almost 8 months old. I’m realizing more and more how important every minute we spend as a little family is. Here are some ways I’m trying to take advantage of it:
Putting my phone away
I never realized how much time I spend on my phone and my computer. When I started paying attention to it, I realized it was pretty much alllll day. When I’m at home, I make a conscious effort not to check my phone every 2 minutes. Same goes for my computer. I’m on social media less, I blog less and I don’t always see emails the second I get them. And, you know what?! It’s not all that bad!
Spending more time at home
Pre-Greylen, I don’t think I was ever home on a week night. Happy hour, errands, blogging events, shopping – I’d always find something to do. While we’re still out and about quite a bit, I’m making an effort to stay home more. It seems to be that it’s where we have made the best memories so far!
Eating dinner together
Now that Greylen is eating pretty much anything that we eat, it’s so fun to sit down and eat together as a family. We just got back into meal planning (it was buttered noodles and cereal for longer than I care to admit) and it’s actually been enjoyable!
Writing it down
Admittedly, I have the worst memory ever. I’m always so nervous that I’m going to forget the quirky and funny things Grey does at each stage of her life, especially because it all changes daily. So, this calendar is hands down one of my favorite purchases I’ve ever made. It sits on our kitchen counter (you can see the stains on it, oooops!) and each day, we write something down about the day whether it’s a “first” or just something fun we did. I didn’t think I’d have something to write every single day but I usually have multiple things. I am obsessed with it and can’t wait to read it with Grey some day!

Rachel,
This is really great advice for a someone who is planning to be a mommy in the future! Thank you so much for sharing. I am totally doing the calendar thing since I am very much like you with forgetting a lot. Can’t believe she’s already 8 months – but it’s been fun following her on Instagram and in person.
xoxo,
Alexa
