wearing white after labor day
With it getting a little cooler out (finally…woo!), I have had multiple people ask me this past week if it’s still okay to wear white. My answer? Sure! Why not?! I’m not sure who originally made up the “no white after Labor Day” rule but I think it’s dumb! I say wear white any time you please – just do it mindfully. Here are some of my tips for wearing white throughout the fall and winter:
- When the weather starts to get cooler, wear white (shoes, jeans, a bag, etc.) with something that’s totally fall – your favorite pair of boots, a big sweater or a blanket scarf. It will off-set the summer vibe.
- In the dead of winter, when there’s snow on the ground, stay away from stark white and try cream (LOVE this pair of skinny jeans) or ivory instead.
- Pay attention to the material. While you may not wear a white lacy tank or flowy silk top all year round, a light sweater or a simple blouse will definitely work as the seasons change.
- Choose one white piece at a time. I’m all for monochromatic white outfits in the summer but in the fall and winter, pair with darker colors. Some of my favorite combos are white + navy, white + black, white + olive green and white + burgundy!
Fashion rules are made to be broken and I’d say that’s definitely the case here. Don’t put away your white jeans or shoes for the fall and winter this year – just try and get creative when wearing them!
